from university to middle school
While teaching in higher education had its challenges with regard to mastering the content, nothing quite compares to the three-ring circus of teaching middle school or high school. As a librarian, I feel a tremendous satisfaction working alongside teachers to help give them that extra hand to design projects, and also help introduce them to new technologies. I am humbled and deeply respectful of the work that classroom teachers do, and see the librarian as playing potentially a critical role in helping teacher and students as they move into the challenging research environment that we find today. The key to working collaboratively? Being nice, listening, and stepping in to fill the gaps with some enthusiasm and creativity. I only wish I had a librarian of the 21st century to help me when I was a classroom teacher. My worklife would have been not only more satisfying, but also a lot more efficient. Also go to the RESEARCH page for many more examples of work I am doing in the library that of course involves students and teaching.

being Cyber Smart
a Journey to Cyberia
This following link will take you to an on-line 3 day unit in digital literacy which emerged out of a collaboration between the library and the Healthy Living and PE department. I approached the Healthy Living team with the idea of creating a series of virtual stations that would include text, games, survey, video and a blogging site as a means to engage students in the topic. This "Journey to Cyberia" has now become a regular unit that the Healthy Living department builds into their quarterly schedule. With each year and new collaborations, we have tweeked and restructured our resources and format. The project currently has since evolved to a new format called "Be Cyber Smart."
